The Composting Consortium’s Municipal Partner Platform, a free-to-access program for city and county officials focused on sustainability, zero waste and waste management. The platform connects officials with leaders nationwide to explore opportunities and challenges in starting and expanding organics collection and infrastructure programs.
Municipalities of all sizes and stages of development are encouraged to reach out to the Composting Consortium to explore ways the network can support their goals of diverting food waste from landfills.

Which municipalities can join?
U.S. municipalities of all sizes, and at any stage of developing their food waste collection programs, are encouraged to reach out to the Composting Consortium. Together, we will explore ways to support your zero waste goals and help divert food waste and certified food-contact compostable packaging from landfills.
Why should municipalities join?
The Municipal Partner Platform convenes municipal leaders to establish and scale organics infrastructure and programs that help divert food waste from landfill. Through this platform, municipalities can access the research, resources and networks they need to support the growth of composting in their communities.
Organics programs and infrastructure play a key role in reducing methane emissions and providing environmental benefits such as improved soil health, water conservation, carbon sequestration, and support for local economies and ecosystems.

What do Municipal Partners receive as part of the platform?
The Municipal Partner Platform is intended to convene local government officials interested in learning and sharing best practices in setting up organic diversion programs and infrastructure.

What is expected from participants?
Municipal Partners can expect to dedicate between 10-20 hours of their time per calendar year.

Does the Composting Consortium offer municipalities funding?
This platform is focused on providing access to resources and networks that can support the scale up of organics infrastructure and programs. Funding is not offered at this time.
